Galala University Wins Second Place in Egypt’s First Nationwide Smart City Hackathon

Galala University proudly achieved second place in the first nationwide Smart City Hackathon in Egypt, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the university’s commitment to innovation, technology, and excellence.

Held under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the event took place at Benha University under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Gamal Sousa. Representing Galala University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Shinawi, Acting President, attended the event to support GU’s talented team of students.

The winning team, composed of first-year Artificial Intelligence studentsMarina Reda, Fares Hasan, Selim Wael, and Mostafa El Demiri — under the guidance of Prof. Mohamed Abd El Aziz, Director of the AI Program, and Architecture student Mohamed Hussein Ahmed, demonstrated outstanding creativity and technical skill. Competing against students from 50 Egyptian universities, the team impressed the judges with their innovative ideas addressing the challenges of Smart City design, prototyping, and testing.

This achievement showcases Galala University’s vision as a smart university aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030, emphasizing the transformative power of technology, research, and innovation in shaping a Digital Egypt.

Prof. Dr. El-Shinawi congratulated the students for their exceptional performance and teamwork, expressing his pride in their ability to compete on a national level and represent Galala University’s spirit of excellence.
