Galala University, in collaboration with The American University in Cairo (AUC), hosted world-renowned economist Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, President of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and University Professor at Columbia University, for a public lecture titled “Global Pathways to Sustainable Development: Building Cooperation in a Divided World.”
The lecture, held at Bassily Auditorium, AUC New Cairo, was organized under the umbrella of SDSN Egypt, jointly hosted by Galala University and AUC. The event brought together ambassadors, ministers, university presidents, and leaders from academia, industry, and civil society.
In his keynote, Professor Sachs emphasized the urgent need for concessional finance and renewed multilateralism to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He highlighted how global cooperation, fairer financial systems, and reformed development institutions can bridge the sustainability funding gap and create a more equitable global framework for progress.
This event marks a major milestone for SDSN Egypt, one of the newest members of the global SDSN network, and reinforces Egypt’s growing role in shaping the regional and global dialogue on sustainable development.
