Within the framework of cooperation among the Health Sector Faculties at Galala University, the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, through its Medical Laboratories Technology Program, organized an extensive and impactful celebration for World Diabetes Awareness Day. The event reflected the university’s commitment to promoting community health, raising awareness on chronic diseases, and fostering an integrated educational environment that connects academic knowledge with practical service.
The celebration featured a series of specialized scientific symposia, delivered by academic staff members from the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences and other Health Sector Faculties. The sessions addressed key themes related to diabetes, including early diagnosis, prevention strategies, lifestyle-related risks, and the latest global approaches in treatment and management. These presentations provided students with valuable insights and up-to-date scientific knowledge, encouraging them to engage actively with contemporary health challenges.
In parallel with the academic sessions, the event offered hands-on health services and student-led activities. Blood sugar testing was made available to students, university employees, and patients at the Dental Medicine Faculty clinics. The testing stations were organized and supervised by trained students under faculty guidance, ensuring both accuracy and an educational experience. By the end of the day, approximately 270 cases had been received and assessed, underscoring the community’s strong engagement with the initiative.
The Faculty’s Student Union and the University’s Red Crescent Society played a distinguished role throughout the event. Their contributions included coordinating traffic flow at testing stations, guiding participants, managing awareness materials, and promoting healthy lifestyle messages. Their efforts demonstrated a powerful model of student leadership and volunteerism, reinforcing the importance of youth engagement in public health awareness.
Galala University continues to prioritize health education and community outreach, ensuring that its students benefit from real-world experiences that enhance their academic journey and prepare them for future professional roles in the health sector.
