Galala University Welcomes Head of the EU Delegation to Egypt & to the League of Arab States to Explore Joint Academic and Research Cooperation

Galala University welcomed today H.E. Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt & to the League of Arab States, accompanied by a high-level EU delegation, in an official visit that included an extensive campus tour and meetings with the University’s leadership.

The visit was attended by Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi, President of Galala University; Prof. Dr. Ehab Hassanein, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Rana Zeidan, University Secretary General; and Dr. Karim El-Baz, Assistant Professor in the Political Science Program.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi welcomed Ambassador Eichhorst and the accompanying delegation, emphasizing that the visit aligns with Galala University’s commitment to expanding international partnerships and strengthening its role as a modern academic institution that keeps pace with global developments in higher education and scientific research.

Prof. El Shinawi noted that cooperation with the European Union represents an important step toward advancing education at Galala University and enhancing the University’s regional and international standing. He stressed GU’s focus on linking European support to its efforts in innovation and advanced research, in line with Egypt’s national vision for the future of higher education. He also highlighted that Galala University has become a recognized international actor within a few years, with existing collaborations with UN organizations and several European universities, and plans to expand further through new academic and research agreements.

The President also discussed the PRIMA Program (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) as a leading model of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, bringing together more than 2,000 international institutions to support innovation and achieve sustainable development goals. He pointed to the program’s continuation until 2037 as a strategic investment in the region’s future, reaffirming GU’s keenness to play an active role through research projects and capacity-building opportunities for researchers and students.

In turn, Prof. Dr. Ehab Hassanein, Vice President for Academic Affairs, stated that the EU Delegation’s visit reflects growing confidence in the quality of Galala University’s academic programs. He added that GU’s advanced educational infrastructure and laboratories open wide horizons for research collaboration, and that the University aims to strengthen student and academic exchange programs and develop joint educational pathways with European universities. He also emphasized GU’s innovative education model, positioning the University as an attractive platform for students locally and internationally.

During the campus tour, Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst expressed her strong admiration for what she witnessed at Galala University, describing it as a distinguished example of modern higher education in Egypt. She praised the University’s facilities and learning environment, and highlighted the spirit of innovation among GU students and faculty members. The Ambassador affirmed the European Union’s readiness to support the University’s efforts in developing scientific research and expanding academic exchange between Egypt and Europe, and to explore broader future cooperation in research and joint educational pathways—strengthening GU’s role as a knowledge and cultural bridge between both sides.

The visit concluded with the Ambassador thanking Galala University for the warm hospitality, while both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening academic and scientific cooperation in the coming period.
