Galala University Researcher Explores AI Applications in Higher Education at the University of Oldenburg

Dr Ahmed H. Eltanboly from Galala University, Egypt, is conducting advanced research on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and mathematics to address real-life challenges in higher education. He is currently a visiting researcher and a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) fellow at the Institute for Educational Sciences at the University of Oldenburg, Germany.

Dr Eltanboly is part of the AIEd research project, “Prospects for the Future of Learning: Artificial Intelligence Applications in Higher Education,” led by Prof. Dr Olaf Zawacki-Richter. The international project, conducted in collaboration with partners from the Center for Open Educational Research (COER), explores global perspectives on the current and future use of AI in teaching and learning. It focuses on potential application scenarios, as well as the opportunities, risks, and ethical and legal considerations associated with AI integration in higher education, particularly in mathematics education.

Commenting on his experience, Dr Eltanboly explained that his decision to join the University of Oldenburg was driven by his desire to combine his research interests in AI and mathematics with his professional background as a mathematical engineer. He first met his host, Prof. Dr Olaf Zawacki-Richter, during the German Science Day event in Egypt, organised by the DAAD, where initial discussions about AI in higher education sparked the collaboration.

Beyond the academic experience, Dr Eltanboly expressed his appreciation for the welcoming and supportive research community in Oldenburg. He highlighted the collaborative atmosphere, the inspiring environment for researchers, and the city’s unique charm, noting that the local greeting “Moin” has become part of his daily interactions. Reflecting on his stay, he shared his enthusiasm for extending his three-month research visit into a longer-term collaboration.
