Galala University (GU) has taken a major step toward advancing global healthcare innovation with the establishment of the China-Egypt Pharmaceutical and MedTech Innovation Hub (CEPMIH), in partnership with Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC). The initiative was launched under the patronage of Professor Mohamed El-Shinawi, President of Galala University, and in the presence of Professor Maha Alrabat, former Minister of Health and member of the university’s Board of Trustees.
This landmark collaboration represents a new chapter in international scientific and industrial cooperation, aiming to enhance healthcare systems and pharmaceutical development in both Egypt and China.
A strategic roundtable discussion was held at the Galala University campus on Tuesday, April 7, bringing together leading figures from academia, regulatory authorities, and industry. Key participants included Professor Amira Abdel Motaal, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; Dr. Tamer El-Husseini, Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority; and Professor Ming Xu from Peking University. Discussions focused on regulatory frameworks, market insights, and the technical roadmap for localizing pharmaceutical production.
The CEPMIH is designed to serve as a dynamic platform connecting the healthcare and pharmaceutical ecosystems of both countries. Its core objectives include facilitating technology transfer and localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing, advancing innovation in biologics and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), and supporting the modernization of traditional medicine. The Hub also emphasizes capacity building through academic exchanges, joint training programs, and professional fellowships to equip future healthcare leaders.
In addition, the initiative aims to strengthen public health resilience by addressing key regional health challenges such as cardiovascular diseases and hepatitis through collaborative research and integrated healthcare solutions.
The Hub brings together a strong network of partners, including Galala University and PKUHSC on the academic front, the Egyptian Drug Authority as a regulatory partner, and major industry players such as Pharco Pharmaceuticals, Medical Union Pharmaceuticals, and the Egyptian Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals (HoldiPharma).
