As part of its commitment to advancing scientific research, practical education, and strategic partnerships, Galala University welcomed Tarek El Houby, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), who met with Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi, President of Galala University, at the university headquarters to discuss enhancing cooperation in the fields of food safety, research, and student training.

The meeting addressed several key areas of mutual interest, most notably enhancing collaboration between the NFSA and Galala University in scientific research related to food safety and quality. Discussions also focused on supporting practical training programs and academic qualification opportunities for students through benefiting from the Authority’s technical and specialized expertise in inspection, monitoring, and food risk assessment.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of signing a scientific cooperation protocol aimed at reinforcing the role of academic institutions in supporting the national food safety system. Additionally, the meeting explored the establishment of joint research units dedicated to applied studies, food product monitoring, and the development of relevant technical standards and requirements.

During the meeting, Tarek El Houby emphasized the Authority’s commitment to building strategic partnerships with leading universities and academic institutions, highlighting the importance of integrating academic knowledge with practical application in preparing qualified scientific professionals capable of keeping pace with modern developments in food safety and food control systems.

He further noted that promoting food safety culture and enhancing community awareness represent key pillars of the Authority’s efforts to protect public health and support Egypt’s food security system.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of leveraging the academic and research capabilities of Galala University’s Faculty of Food Industries in preparing specialized graduates equipped with the academic and practical qualifications required to align with modern food chain monitoring systems. This contributes to preparing future generations capable of applying the latest inspection, monitoring, and food risk management systems according to modern scientific and practical standards.

For his part, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi expressed his appreciation for the significant role played by the National Food Safety Authority in advancing Egypt’s food control system. He reaffirmed Galala University’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Authority in the fields of training, scientific research, and expertise exchange to help prepare future generations with strong scientific knowledge and practical awareness in food safety and public health, while supporting Egypt’s sustainable development efforts.

Following the meeting, Tarek El Houby toured the university campus, visiting several educational buildings, laboratories, lecture halls, and modern facilities. During the tour, he reviewed the academic and technological capabilities offered by Galala University and praised the university’s advanced infrastructure and modern facilities, which support both education and scientific research and reflect Egypt’s vision of establishing smart universities in line with international standards.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue coordination during the coming period and to form specialized working groups to explore mechanisms for implementing the proposed areas of cooperation, supporting national efforts to advance food systems and promote concepts of quality, safety, and sustainability.
