Egyptian Ambassador to Austria Witnesses the Signing of an MoU Between Galala University and Montanuniversität Leoben to Advance Academic and Research Cooperation

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic and scientific collaboration between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Austria, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Nasr, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna, witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Galala University and Montanuniversität Leoben on 22 July 2026 in Leoben, Austria.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi, President of Galala University, and Prof. Peter Moser, Rector of Montanuniversität Leoben, in the presence of Ambassador Mohamed Nasr. The ceremony was also attended by Prof. Khaled Abu Shanab, Cultural Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural Office in Vienna, alongside senior representatives from both universities.

In his remarks, Ambassador Mohamed Nasr emphasized that the MoU reflects the strength of Egyptian-Austrian relations and the shared commitment of both countries to expanding cooperation in higher education and scientific research. He highlighted the importance of fostering knowledge exchange, supporting innovation, and preparing highly qualified graduates capable of contributing to sustainable development.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi and Prof. Peter Moser expressed their shared commitment to translating the agreement into tangible initiatives through academic and research exchange programs, joint research projects, and collaborative activities in engineering, technology, geology, and energy—creating long-term value for both institutions.

The visit also included a high-level meeting with the Austrian university’s leadership, followed by tours of the Department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering laboratories and the Hydrogen and Carbon Research Center, where the Galala University delegation explored cutting-edge research projects and technological innovations.

The partnership marks another milestone in Galala University’s internationalization strategy, reinforcing its commitment to expanding global academic networks and creating impactful opportunities for education, research, and innovation. It also reflects the continued efforts of the Egyptian Embassy in Vienna to strengthen cooperation between Egyptian and Austrian higher education and research institutions, promoting knowledge transfer and opening new avenues for bilateral academic collaboration.
