In a first-of-its-kind initiative among Egyptian universities, Galala University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Darts Federation to become the Official Academic Partner of the 2027 Darts World Cup in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The partnership supports Egypt’s hosting of the global championship, which is set to be held in an Arab and African country for the first time since the event was established 50 years ago. It also marks Galala University as the first Egyptian university to be officially associated with a global darts event.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Shinawi, President of Galala University, and Prof. Dr. Yehia Abdel Kader, President of the Egyptian Darts Federation, in the presence of faculty deans and members of the Federation’s Board of Directors.
Through the partnership, Galala University will contribute its academic expertise across several areas. The Faculty of Media Production will support a youth media center, the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering will contribute to innovation and digital transformation, and the Faculty of Art and Design will participate in developing the championship’s visual identity. Students will also have opportunities to take part in the national volunteer program and gain practical experience in media, event management, design, technology, and volunteering.
The collaboration also includes organizing an international conference titled “Sports Innovation and Future Events 2027,” launching a University Darts Academy, and hosting local and international darts championships. Through these initiatives, the University aims to strengthen its role as a regional hub for darts, mind sports, modern recreational sports, and sports tourism.
Commenting on the partnership, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Shinawi emphasized that Galala University is committed to providing students with an integrated university experience that goes beyond the classroom. Participating in a major international sporting event will enable students to develop practical skills, broaden their knowledge, engage with different cultures, and gain experience relevant to their future careers. He also highlighted the University’s role in supporting Egypt’s hosting of the championship as part of its national responsibility and contribution to strengthening Egypt’s international presence.
Prof. Dr. Yehia Abdel Kader said: “Darts is a global sport practiced by more than 70 million people. Having an academic partner enables us to build a new Egyptian model that connects education with a global sporting event and places its name within an unprecedented international project in the region. We believe Galala University is the ideal partner to lead this model at the 2027 Darts World Cup.”
Through this strategic partnership, Galala University is connecting education with international sports, giving students meaningful real-world opportunities while supporting Egypt’s growing presence in global sports tourism and major international events.
