Program Overview

Nowadays, architects need to design buildings to establish a symbiotic relationship with the natural environment. An architectural design process cannot disregard a deep comprehension of the natural environment's limits and resources, both qualitative and quantitative. Scientific principles are used in the program as a meaningful platform for imagining a new generation of buildings to compensate for the environmental impact due to their construction, operation, and disassembly.

Sustainability, Efficiency, and Renewability are three words that describe the engine driving the development, economic growth, and the future for decades to come. The Environmental Architecture and Building Technology Program (EABT) at GU aims at graduating architects who have a deep understanding of the environmental and societal aspects and can use modern technology to provide innovative solutions. This field of study is, therefore, needed to develop sustainable designs that overcome contemporary environmental problems.

Thus, sustainable building design has never been more important for the future of our environment. It explores a wide range of approaches to building design strategies that promote sustainability. Moreover, it develops the skills needed to address this significant global challenge that can create beautiful, meaningful, and sustainable environments to enhance our quality of life. The skills range from designing green buildings to planning resilient cities, managing advanced construction projects, or creating ecologically responsive places.

Reducing energy consumption which contributes to global climate change and pollution, is an international imperative. The future architect must be equipped with the skills and vision to tackle this challenge both innovatively and responsibly. This program helps you master the knowledge and skills required to produce thermally comfortable, healthy, and habitable building designs while minimizing energy consumptions. The curriculum embraces the interface between the environmental, economic, and socio-cultural sustainability dimensions regarding building design and carbon neutrality.

Degree Requirements

University Requirement: (14+6) = 20  Credit Hours.

Field Requirement: (115 + 15) = 130 Credit Hours.

Speciality Requirements (0+15) = 15 Credit Hours.

Total: (129+36) = 165 Credit Hours.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will possess the following learning outcomes:

  • Generate innovative architectural ideas that meet technical requirements and consider social, economic, and environmental dimensions.
  • Implement the concept of sustainable architectural design by understanding the relationship between the building and the environment while achieving the human scale in its design.
  • Understand methods of construction and specifications of raw and building materials.
  • Coordinate between different related engineering disciplines.
  • Keep pace with scientific and technological advances in the profession.
  • Apply building requirements, laws, and codes in your own designs.
  • Prepare preliminary and executive studies and drawings.
  • Tender documents and supervise the implementation, cost control, and project management.

All graduates of this program are qualified for the title of ‘Architectural Engineer’ in the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate. The points of excellence of the graduates of the EABT program are as follows.
