Program Overview

Biomedical Informatics uses information, biomedical data, problem-solving, decision-making, and scientific inquiry to support human health. Biomedical Informatics combines knowledge of biology, computer science, informatics, and information engineering to manage health and biomedical information.

Graduates from the GU BMI program will be able to use their preparation to apply and investigate information and communication technologies to solve problems in the related biomedical fields in a comprehensive, competitive, and effective way.

Biomedical informatics is a field that is concerned with the cognitive, information processing, and communication aspects of medicine and healthcare, including the information sciences and technology to support these tasks. This field covers the application of information technology in clinical medicine, medical record-keeping, medical instrumentation, and healthcare management.

Degree Requirements

In order to graduate from this program, students need to finish the following credit hours:

University Requirement: 20 Credit Hours.

Mathematics & Basic Science: 25 Credit Hours.

Computer Science & Engineering: 30 Credit Hours.

AI Science & Engineering: Credit Hours.

Advanced Specially Requirement: Credit Hours.

Biomedical Informatics: 39 Credit Hours.

Project & Training: 10 Credit Hours.

Total: 127 Credit Hours.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will have the ability to:

  • Apply data science principles to improve health care delivery.                 
  • Demonstrate programming, data analysis, and data manipulation skills.
  • Integrate and synthesize data to inform ethical, evidence-based, and patient-centered care.
