Under the auspices of H.E. Prof. Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in the presence of Eng. Sherif Ismail, Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Galala University Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr Ayman Ashour, Deputy Minister for University Affairs, H.E. Mr Johnathan Cohen, the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, Prof. Nancy Gonzales, Executive VP of Arizona State University, Mr Douglas Becker, Founder & Chairman of Cintana Education, Prof. Dr Tarek Abou Elmaaty, Galala University VP for Academic Affairs, and Prof. Dr Mohamed El Shinawi, Galala University VP for International Cooperation, Community Service and Environmental Development, an agreement partnership was signed between Galala University and Arizona State University to grant students dual international certificates at reasonable Egyptian tuition fees.
In the beginning of the ceremony, Dr Ayman Ashour stressed the importance of this agreement, which was implemented according to the directives of the political leadership, stating the need to expand cooperation with international universities of global excellence, to benefit from their expertise in providing study programs of international quality. This will ensure a distinguished international level of education and a generation of graduates with internationally recognized certificates.
In his speech, Mr. Jonathan Cohen, the American Ambassador in Cairo, indicated that this agreement will enhance the scientific cooperation between the two universities, which will provide an advanced level education to a large number of students. It will also help them build their technical skills in vital areas, pointing to previous successful cooperation examples between Egypt and the United States.
Through a recorded speech, Professor Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University, noted that ASU is one of the most important American universities, ranked first in innovation in the United States of America, and was ranked internationally No. 155, making it one of the best international universities. He declared that today's agreement represents an additional step in strengthening the university's role in academic cooperation with Egyptian national universities.
On the other hand, Prof. Dr Mohamed El-Shinawi, Vice President of Galala University for International Cooperation, Community Service and Environmental Development, confirmed that this agreement is the result of great work and effort from both parties, stating that Galala University’s main objective is to provide a distinctive level of education while collaborating with one of the most prestigious universities in the world providing modern and distinguished study programs to its students.
Mr. Douglas Becker, Chairman of Cintana Education, explained that the agreement grants dual degrees accredited by both GU and ASU, in the fields of engineering, Computer Science and Administrative Sciences. Moreover, Cintana Education Foundation will provide its expertise to Galala University on ways to improve the quality of teaching with the use of modern technology.
