In light of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and within the framework of the strategic vision of His Excellency, Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Galala University welcomed a delegation from Arizona State University to start an international partnership between the two universities. This comes under GU’s constant effort to stand out as the first-ever smart university in Egypt, and to place Egypt on the global map in the fields of higher education and scientific research, providing study programs of international quality.
The delegation from Arizona State University was represented by Prof. Stephanie Lindquist, Vice President of Arizona State University, Prof. Douglas Becker, Executive Director of the Cintana Foundation for Education, and Prof. Wadiah Atiyah, Head, MENA Region. From GU, they were received by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Haider Ghaleb, Acting President of GU, Prof. Dr. Tarek Abou Elmaaty, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Shenawi, Acting Vice President for International Relations, Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Yasser Kazem, Secretary-General of the University, and Dr. Rana Zeidan, Secretary of the University’s Board of Trustees.
The visit comes in light of discussing the partnership between the two universities, and also to explore the university and its facilities with the surrounding geographical area in Galala city. This cooperation will cover many aspects, not only academically.
Moreover, this step is considered the start of activating the partnership between the two universities, according to the cooperation agreement, which was witnessed by His Excellency, Professor Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on Monday, May 10, in the presence of Ambassador Jonathan R. Cohen, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Egypt.
Prof. Dr. Ashraf Haider Ghaleb, Acting President of GU, stated that this agreement is the product of extensive work and effort on both sides. It aims to benefit from the American experience in providing modern and distinguished study programs, especially that Galala University seeks to provide an international educational service that competes on an international basis. Moreover, he pointed out that the agreement represents a turning point in the performance of the educational process within the university, by hosting American professors and experts to teach, either by attendance or by the distance education system. In addition, the university is looking forward to concluding more cultural and scientific cooperation agreements alongside the exchange of students and academic staff members between the two parties.
Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Haider Ghaleb said that the agreement grants a “dual degree" certificate accredited by the Universities of Galala and Arizona State University , for the Fields of Engineering, Social & Human Sciences, Basic Sciences, Administrative Sciences, Media Production, and Art & Design. As well as granting an accredited certificate from Galala University with administrative assistance from the commercial partner of Arizona State University (CINTANA) for the Fields of Pharmacy. Physical therapy, Nursing, and Food Industries. The agreement also states the cooperation between the two parties in establishing educational programs of international standards, in addition to providing technical advice to Galala University regarding the educational process.
On the other hand, several meetings were held during the visit with the deans and program directors of the fields of Engineering, Administrative Sciences, Social & Human Sciences, Art and Design, Basic Sciences, Media Production, Business Development, and Information Technology Departments, to learn about the nature and progress of work within the university, and to respond to all questions and inquiries from both parties.
Galala University is one of the private universities that was inaugurated under the guidance of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, to provide an educational learning experience that competes internationally, making it one of the best educational institutions for local and international students.
The University is divided into fifteen promising fields, comprising more than 60 distinct programs, 29 programs of which started this year. The available Fields include Medicine, Media Production, Physical Therapy, Social and Human Sciences, Administrative Sciences, Basic Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering Sciences, Architecture, Art and Design, Applied Health Sciences Technology, Dentistry, Nursing Sciences, and finally Computer Science and Engineering. The university also includes a teaching hospital and private housing for students and academic staff members.
