Galala University Powers Campus with Solar Energy: Highlight at COP27 Energy Day

Galala University (GU) is proud to showcase its commitment to sustainable energy and environmental stewardship by installing solar energy plants across all campus buildings. This ambitious initiative, co-funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with a contribution of $50,000, actively involves GU students in its implementation, blending practical learning with impactful sustainability efforts.

The Phase 1 solar installation generates over 150 kW of renewable energy, which accounts for approximately 15% of the university’s total energy consumption. These solar plants are a key part of GU’s strategy to reduce carbon footprint, optimize energy usage, and integrate renewable energy solutions into campus operations. Students participated directly in planning, installing, and monitoring the solar systems, gaining hands-on experience in green energy technologies and sustainable infrastructure management.

As part of COP27 Energy Day activities, GU will highlight its achievements in becoming the only university in Egypt fully operating with renewable energy initiatives, demonstrating how higher education institutions can lead by example in the global transition to clean energy. This project not only emphasizes innovation and sustainability but also aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 goals for renewable energy adoption and environmental responsibility.

By integrating student engagement, international support, and renewable energy technology, Galala University sets a model for eco-friendly campuses and the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders.
