Program Overview

This is a fast-moving industry, and the automotive, aerospace and manufacturing sectors seek innovative multi-material manufacturing solutions to achieve operational, environmental, and economic goals.

Leading companies need engineers with the technical knowledge to develop new materials that provide better performance. They’re also looking for people who have the business perspective and interpersonal skills to lead teams and guide change. Also, the graduates of this program are highly demanded to pursue career opportunities in Europe.

Material engineers, who graduate from this program, can interpret and control the chemical processes in the materials and change them by the use of various technologies. A graduated Materials Engineer will define and describe the physical and chemical processes happening in material systems with mathematical tools, and with special consideration to thermodynamics and kinetics’ regularities. Also, materials and manufacturing engineering are a key technology for environmentally sustainable development, hence, the importance of materials engineering is growing in society.

Galala University is located by the Red Sea, rich with all the raw materials necessary for its study.

This particular program is essential for several reasons, including the ever-changing technology and the growing need to introduce new tools and methods of building or constructing new and improved machinery, equipment, and computer programs to enable a smooth industrial output flow. Manufacturing engineering is a growing sector with a promising future and the need to improve services and access changing global phenomena constantly.

Degree Requirements

In order to graduate, you need to study the following:

University Requirement: (14+6) = 20 Credit Hours.

General Field Requirement: (33+0) = 33 Credit Hours.

General Specialty Requirement: (64+3) = 67 Credit Hours.

Minor Specialty Requirements: (30+15) = 45 Credit Hours.

Total: (141+24) = 165 Credit Hours.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  • Design systems, machines, tools, and products to implement proper standards and develop the necessary calculations, construction and working drawings.
  • Implement basics of industrial engineering to analyze, plan and design production systems.
  • Select materials suitable for specific applications.
  • Recognize the relationship between structure, properties and performance of engineering materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, compositions, and functional materials) for multiple applications (mechanical, civil, electrical and electronic).
  • Choose or invent the material and the appropriate manufacturing method to obtain the required properties for any design.

Career opportunities

There is a wide range of opportunities available for a candidate pursuing manufacturing engineering. Students who have completed their Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering can directly opt for a job in various sectors or enrol for higher studies such as M.E or M. Tech degrees in manufacturing engineering. Multiple fields where a Manufacturing Engineer can find a job are:

  • Automotive companies.
  • Chemical Industries.
  • Hardware companies.
  • Aeronautical Firms.
  • Pharmaceutical Companies.
  • Tools and Instruments etc.

Here are some job opportunities that you may pursue:

  • Materials Engineer
Material Engineers are the professionals responsible for designing, developing, and testing new technologies to produce different metals.
  • Ceramic Engineer
Ceramic Engineers are the professionals responsible for creating new Ceramic Materials and new technologies to develop them. They work with diverse materials’ production fields such as glassware, electronic components, nuclear reactors, jet engines, and linings for blast furnaces.
  • Metallurgical Engineers
Metallurgical Engineers are professionals who work with alloys and metals in various industries. The major responsibilities of a Metallurgical Engineer are to analyze the alloys and metals to determine their properties.
  • Metallographers
A Metallographer conducts microscopic and macroscopic testing on materials to develop improved metals and production technologies.
  • Design Engineer.
  • Product Developer.
  • Quality Engineer.

Some employment sectors or industries that are suitable for a Material Engineer are given below:

  • Transportation Equipment Manufacturing.
  • Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing.
  • Engineering Services.
  • Primary Metal Manufacturing.
  • Research-Based Organizations.
