Educational Field Visit by Galala University Engineering Students to the New Al-Ferdan Bridge Project

As part of Galala University’s commitment to bridging academic learning with real-world application, a group of students from the Faculty of Engineering—representing the Construction Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering programs—conducted a field visit to the site of the New Al-Ferdan Bridge. This visit marks the first of its kind by an Egyptian university to this landmark engineering project.

The New Al-Ferdan Bridge is a movable railway bridge that crosses the Suez Canal near Ismailia. It is classified as the longest movable bridge in the world, with a span of 340 meters. Located 65 kilometers north of Ismailia and approximately 11 kilometers away from the city itself, the bridge extends a total of 4 kilometers across land and water, making it the first and longest movable metal railway bridge of its kind worldwide.

During the visit, students were introduced to the various stages of the bridge’s design and construction, as well as its operation and maintenance mechanisms. The experience enriched their engineering knowledge and offered them valuable insights into real-world applications of their studies.

This visit aligns with the university’s mission to connect education with market demands, especially at a time when Egypt is undergoing major national infrastructure and engineering projects.

Such initiatives reflect Galala University’s dedication to preparing highly skilled engineering graduates who are equipped to thrive in modern industrial and professional environments.
