Molecular Biotechnology Students at Galala University Win Prestigious ASRT Grant for Groundbreaking Research
A big shout-out to Galala University’s brilliant scientists from the Molecular Biotechnology Program at the Field of Basic Sciences, who continue to make us proud with their remarkable research achievements.
A team of talented students has recently received a prestigious grant from the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) for their innovative project titled “Isolation and Characterization of Endophyte Microbes Associated with Capparis spinosa Growing in Galala High Mountains for New Drug Discovery.”
This student-led research focuses on exploring the genetic and biological potential of Capparis spinosa (commonly known as the caper plant), which thrives in the unique ecosystem of the Galala High Mountains. The project aims to isolate and characterize endophytic microbes—microorganisms that live within plant tissues without causing harm—to uncover their possible applications in new drug discovery and development.
By studying these desert-adapted microbes, the project seeks to raise awareness of Egypt’s vast desert genetic resources and their potential role in improving agricultural sustainability, ecosystem resilience, and biomedical innovation. This aligns closely with the university’s mission to promote research-driven education and contribute to national and global scientific progress.
During their meeting with Prof. Dr. Tarek Abou El Maaty, Vice President for Academic Affairs, the students presented their research framework, objectives, and expected outcomes. Prof. Dr. Tarek expressed his appreciation for their dedication and creativity, emphasizing GU’s full support for research that advances scientific knowledge and addresses real-world challenges.
This remarkable achievement underscores Galala University’s commitment to nurturing young scientists, fostering innovation, and contributing to Egypt’s growing role in cutting-edge biotechnology research.
