Galala University Named Finalist in Big 5 Construct Egypt Impact Awards 2025 for “Bazar Abbas: Port Said Recovery Lab” Project

Galala University is proud to announce that its innovative project, “Bazar Abbas: Port Said Recovery Lab,” has been shortlisted for the Big 5 Construct Egypt Impact Awards 2025 under the category of “Conservation & Heritage Initiative of the Year.”

This prestigious recognition highlights the university’s ongoing commitment to cultural heritage preservation and sustainable urban development. The “Bazar Abbas” project focuses on reviving one of Port Said’s most iconic historical sites, located in the heart of the city’s European District. Through a holistic model that combines architectural conservation, urban regeneration, and inclusive community engagement, the initiative aims to breathe new life into this vital cultural landmark.

This achievement would not have been possible without the outstanding support of Galala University’s key partners:

BTU Cottbus – Germany

Beit Yakan – Egypt, led by renowned heritage architect Dr. Alaa Habashi

Port Said Ala Adimo – a local NGO dedicated to cultural advocacy

UN-Habitat – Nairobi

Galala University also extends special thanks to the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund, whose instrumental funding has powered this initiative and will continue to support further conservation, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement efforts through the end of 2025.

The Big 5 Construct Egypt Impact Awards is the country’s most influential construction and built environment platform, honoring projects that showcase innovation, sustainability, and transformative impact.

The winners will be announced on June 18, 2025, during a formal awards ceremony in Cairo.
