On April 26th, 2025, thirty-two pharmacy students from Galala University visited Imbaba General Hospital in Giza, Egypt, as part of an enriching educational initiative aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and clinical practice. The visit was organized by Dr. Eman Mostafa, lecturer of clinical pharmacy at Galala University, in coordination with Dr. Soad El-Hendy, Deputy Director of the hospital.
This field visit provided the students with valuable exposure to real-life hospital settings, supporting Galala University’s commitment to academic excellence and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 4: Quality Education.
During their visit, students engaged in clinical case demonstrations across internal medicine, pediatrics, and critical care departments. They were given the opportunity to observe real patient cases, understand treatment planning, and discuss evidence-based approaches to diagnosis and therapy. This hands-on experience enhanced their ability to think critically and apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.
In addition to clinical rounds, the students received training in core clinical pharmacy skills. They learned how to identify and manage drug-drug interactions, minimize side effects, and apply therapeutic substitution techniques. The significance of clinical pharmacists in nutritional therapy was also emphasized, giving students a broader perspective on patient care and pharmaceutical responsibility.
The visit included scientific lectures that added depth to the students’ understanding. One lecture, titled “Clinical Pharmacy Tips,” focused on prioritizing patient cases, identifying prescription red flags, enhancing communication skills, and reducing medication errors. Another lecture offered a detailed overview of serums and vaccines, discussing their mechanisms of action, administration techniques, dosage guidelines, contraindications, and international recommendations.
Through this comprehensive experience, students gained deeper insight into hospital workflows, interdisciplinary collaboration, medication safety, and the essential role pharmacists play in both disease prevention and therapeutic success. The visit not only strengthened their clinical competencies but also prepared them to meet future healthcare challenges with confidence and professionalism.
Galala University continues to prioritize experiential learning opportunities as part of its mission to provide a well-rounded, globally relevant education. The success of this visit highlights the value of integrating clinical training into the academic curriculum and encourages ongoing collaboration between educational institutions and healthcare providers.
