Galala University Celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with an Awareness Event Promoting Inclusion and Comprehensive Healthcare

Galala University organized an awareness event to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, led by the University’s Equal Opportunities Unit in collaboration with the medical sector and the University’s Psychological Safety Center. The event was held within the framework of academic and community cooperation under the presidential initiative “Tamkeen,” which supports the empowerment of persons with disabilities, and under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The event brought together students from disability support units representing Galala University, Suez Canal University, Suez University, and Cairo University, creating an inclusive platform for dialogue, learning, and shared experience.

This initiative reflects Galala University’s commitment to promoting inclusion, empowerment, and equal opportunities for students with disabilities. It also highlighted the efforts and initiatives undertaken by Egyptian universities in this field, in line with the state’s vision to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and ensure equal access to education and healthcare services. In addition, the event contributed to developing students’ skills in healthcare provision and social inclusion, supporting the preparation of qualified medical cadres capable of delivering comprehensive and inclusive healthcare services to all segments of society.

The event was attended by a distinguished group of public and civil society figures, including Dr. Jihad Ibrahim Hanfi, Member of the House of Representatives; Eng. Tamer Anis, Board Member of the National Center for Persons with Disabilities; and Mr. Amr Abbas, Vice Chairman of the Board of the Deaf Association, member of the Egyptian Federation for Persons with Disabilities, former member of the Arab Organization for Persons with Disabilities, and Islamic preacher for the Deaf. A representative from a private bank also delivered a presentation on financial inclusion for persons with disabilities within the banking sector. The presence of Mr. Mohamed Rashad, a sign language interpreter, ensured full and effective engagement for all participants.

In this context, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi, President of Galala University, stated that the University places great importance on issues related to persons with disabilities, stemming from its firm belief in the right of all individuals to equal opportunities in education, healthcare, and community participation. He emphasized that such events aim to instill values of inclusion and diversity among students and to prepare them academically and humanely to serve society with competence and responsibility.

The University President added that Galala University continues to support initiatives and activities that raise community awareness and reinforce its role as an educational and developmental institution contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals and the building of a more just and inclusive society.

This event is part of a broader series of activities organized by Galala University to promote a culture of inclusion, equal opportunities, and mental health, reaffirming the University’s pioneering role in community service and support for diverse groups.
