Galala University Hosts Webinar on Climate Change and Sustainable Tourism in Galala and Sokhna
In January 2022, Galala University organized an impactful webinar titled “The Impact of Climate and Environmental Changes on the Sustainability of Tourist Villages in the Galala and Sokhna Areas.” The event brought together leading experts in environmental science, tourism development, and sustainability to address one of the most urgent global challenges—climate change and its effect on coastal tourism.
The webinar explored how rising sea levels, increasing temperatures, and changing weather patterns are threatening tourist villages along the Red Sea coast. Experts warned that coastal erosion, water scarcity, coral reef degradation, and extreme weather events could significantly affect tourism infrastructure, local communities, and the regional economy if no action is taken.
During the discussions, specialists emphasized the necessity of integrating sustainable tourism strategies, such as green building designs, renewable energy use, smart water and waste management, and nature-based coastal protection solutions. They also highlighted the role of universities and research institutions in providing scientific data, climate risk assessments, and innovative solutions to support decision-makers.
Additionally, the event stressed the importance of cooperation between governmental bodies, tourism investors, local municipalities, and civil society to implement climate adaptation plans and maintain the environmental integrity of Galala and Sokhna. Real-life case studies and global best practices on eco-tourism and resilient coastal development were showcased as models for future implementation in Egypt.
This webinar reaffirmed Galala University’s commitment to sustainability, environmental education, and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to climate action, sustainable cities, and life below water.
