Galala University collaborates with the “100 Million Healthy Lives” initiative
Galala University (GU) proudly strengthened its dedication to health and wellbeing by partnering with the national 100 Million Healthy Lives initiative to enhance early disease detection and promote preventive healthcare across its campus community.
Over the course of a week, GU hosted the campaign’s medical committee alongside representatives from the Egyptian Women’s Health Is Egypt’s Health initiative. These teams provided free medical check-ups for students, administrative staff, and academic faculty, including screenings for obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and mammogram screenings aimed at the early detection of breast cancer.
During the collaboration, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Shinawi, Acting Vice President for International Affairs, Community Development, and Environmental Issues at GU, led an awareness lecture. He was joined by Prof. Dr. Salma Dowara, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, to emphasize the critical value of routine medical examinations. Their discussion centered on how early diagnosis not only improves individual outcomes but also fosters a culture of collective responsibility and health consciousness within the university community.
This initiative aligns with Egypt’s national health strategy under the “100 Million Healthy Lives” campaign, which aims to screen large segments of the adult population for infectious and non-communicable diseases and expand access to care. campaign has been hailed internationally — for example, the World Health Organization acknowledged Egypt’s progress toward eliminating hepatitis C thanks to the campaign’s broad screening reach and service delivery.
By hosting the campaign’s activities on campus, GU has enabled its students and staff to benefit from accessible health services, encouraged personal responsibility for wellbeing, and underscored the institution’s commitment to graduating not only academically competent, but also healthy, empowered individuals.
