Galala University Hosts Workshop on “Sustainability Commitment: How Industry Contributes to the SDGs”
In March 2022, Galala University convened a dedicated workshop titled “Sustainability Commitment: How Industry Contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” The event brought together students, faculty, industry professionals, and sustainability experts to examine the role of business and manufacturing sectors in promoting responsible practices that align with global sustainability agendas.
During the workshop, attendees engaged in sessions exploring how industries can incorporate eco-friendly processes, resource-efficient technologies, and circular economy models into operations. Speakers emphasized the importance of reducing waste, managing energy consumption, harnessing renewable energy, and maintaining ethical supply chains. They also highlighted how sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and services need to adapt by embedding sustainability into their strategic outlook.
Interactive group activities enabled participants to brainstorm tangible initiatives, like partnering with academic institutions for green innovation, training workforces on sustainable practices, and implementing monitoring frameworks for carbon footprints and water usage. Case studies from regional and global industries illustrated how sustainable transition can drive both environmental performance and business competitiveness.
The workshop further underscored the critical nexus between academia, industry and policy-makers. Galala University stressed its commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and tools to become sustainability champions, while encouraging industry to align its goals with the SDGs—ultimately contributing to a more resilient economy and healthier planet.
