Medical laboratory - Clinical Microbiology

This course introduces the fundamentals of clinical microbiology, covering the identification of various microorganisms, sampling methods, bacterial identification algorithms, and culture techniques. Students will gain hands-on experience with smear preparation, Gram stain preparation, direct microscopic examination of bacteria, quantitative culture methods, and the preparation of nutrient agar, blood agar, and chocolate agar.

Day-1 

  • 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Introduction to microbiology – Identify Different types of microorganisms – Sampling in Microbiology
  • 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Working Principles To identify Algorithm for bacterial identification (TSI, Urease, Citrate, MIO, LIA)
  • 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM: Break
  • 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Hands-on activity: Different bacterial culture methods

Day-2 

  • 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Different sample interpretation in Microbiology: Upper respiratory tract and cerebrospinal fluid samples
  • 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Quantitative culture techniques – Qualitative culture techniques – Interpretation and different uses of both techniques
  • 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM: Break
  • 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Hands-on: Smear preparation – Gram stain preparation – Direct microscopic examination of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
