Dr. Magdi A. El-Sayed is a distinguished Professor of Plant Physiology, renowned for his expertise in various domains of plant sciences. Currently serving as the Coordinator of the Biological Sciences Department at the Faculty of Science, Galala University, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role.
Dr. El-Sayed embarked on his academic journey by obtaining his BSc in Botany and MSc in Plant Ecology from Aswan Faculty of Science. His passion for plant sciences led him to pursue further studies, culminating in a PhD degree from the Division of Pharmacognosy at Leiden University, The Netherlands, in 2004.
Throughout his career, Dr. El-Sayed has delved into numerous facets of plant sciences, including Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Desert Plant Ecology, Plant-microbe interactions, Cell and Tissue cultures, and Phytochemistry. His research endeavors have yielded significant contributions to the field, evident in his extensive publication record comprising over 70 papers in reputed international peer-reviewed journals, along with two book chapters.
Dr. El-Sayed’s academic pursuits have taken him across the globe, including a notable stint as a visiting research fellow at Yamaguchi University, Japan, from 2006 to 2008. He further enriched his expertise through a JSPS Fellowship at the same university from 2008 to 2010. His collaboration with Yamaguchi University continued over the years, with several visits as a visiting professor in subsequent years.
Over the course of his career, Dr. El-Sayed has demonstrated exemplary leadership, progressing from a demonstrator to a full Professor. He has also served in administrative roles such as Acting Head of the Botany Department and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science at Aswan University from 2017 to 2020.
