Area Of Research

The research activities cover materials science and metallurgy of steel. It involves designing of new economic eco-friendly steelmaking processes and steel alloys. To achieve this target, green steelmaking process, energy saving, using renewable energy in steel processing, recycling of steel industry wastes as well as designing and development of new advanced steel grades for technological application using microalloying technique for the needs of energy sector, hydrogen and natural gas storage and transportation, light steel, high impact toughness and high strength steel, weathering resistance structure and applications and seismic steel structures.

Heat treatment and grain refining to the nano scale grains and precipitates are among the processes to achieve advanced properties integrated with proper alloying and thermal processing.

Concerning waste management, steel industry waste could be a high add value materials by proper study and treatment. Mill scale, slag and dust are rich with valuable materials and elements that could be extracted and produced. Energy saving and renewable energy implementation in steel industry are the main target for green steel production.
