Galala University– February 5, 2024 –

Coinciding with the launch of PRIMA 2024 funding opportunities, Galala University (GU) hosted an informative session on the program’s call for “strengthening R&I capacities in Egypt.” This event, held in collaboration with PRIMA, ASRT (Academy of Scientific Research and Technology), STDF (Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority) and DAAD, aimed to encourage Egyptian researchers to participate in collaborative projects addressing key Mediterranean challenges.

With over 150 researchers attending both physically on GU campus and virtually, the session provided valuable insights into the PRIMA program and its latest funding opportunities. Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi, GU President and PRIMA Co-Chair, welcomed participants and highlighted the program’s achievements over the past five years (2018-2023), emphasizing its success in funding projects that contribute to sustainable development, economic growth, and responsible resource management in the Mediterranean region.

Dr. Mohamed Wageih, PRIMA Project Officer, delved into the specifics of the PRIMA-2024 Call, outlining its priorities, topics, and key elements for crafting a competitive proposal and building a strong consortium. Additionally, Ms. Salma Essawi from the ASRT, and Ms. Radwa Fathi from the STDF explained the national regulations related to funding applications.

PRIMA, a consortium of 19 participating countries, offers a unique platform for international scientific cooperation addressing critical challenges faced by the Mediterranean region.

This information session aligns with Egypt’s 2030 Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation, and Sustainable Development. Fostering communication and collaboration between Egyptian and international researchers is crucial for tackling these shared challenges and driving positive change in the Mediterranean region.
